"If the essence of my being has caused a smile on your face or a touch of joy within your heart, then in living I have made my mark"

- Thomas L. Oden

THIS IS ME

From South African Skies
to Texas Horizons

I’ve been making art for as long as I can remember. One of my earliest memories is taking a box of crayons to the floral wallpaper in my childhood home and filling every bit I could reach with drawings of my own. My mom wasn’t exactly thrilled with the redecorating, but she understood very early that creating was simply part of who I am.

I grew up in South Africa, and that landscape still lives in me. When my family and I made Texas home, I fell in love with the wide-open skies here too. Clouds, changing light, flowers and open spaces stop me in my tracks. They make me feel small, calm and connected — and those are the moments I’m drawn to paint.

My path to becoming the artist I am today wasn’t a straight line. I studied psychology, teaching and art therapy before mural painting took me on a wonderfully unexpected ride in my twenties. I loved the scale, the transformation and the joy of completely changing a space, while continuing to paint in oils all along. Today, oil painting is where I feel most at home, although a mural that sounds like fun can still tempt me now and then.

I paint in an impressionistic, expressive way. I’m less interested in recreating exactly what a camera sees than in capturing what a place, memory or moment feels like. A landscape can hold a whole history. A changing sky can shift a mood. A flower can be delicate and resilient at the same time.

I’m an artist, a wife and a mom to three wildly beautiful souls. I miss South Africa and my people, but I fell in love with Texas. This is home. I believe art should lift us up, give us somewhere to pause, reflect or escape, and make everyday life a little more beautiful. If something I paint makes you stop for a moment and feel something, then I’ve done what I hoped to do.

STUDIO SERVICES

Three Ways to Experience My Work

Original Fine Art

My oil paintings are rooted in landscape, flowers, light, memory and emotion. Each piece begins with something that makes me stop, pay attention and feel.

Custom Murals

I still love the transformation a mural can bring to a space. I take on select mural projects when the idea, setting and creative direction feel like the right fit.
